Community / support / Uploading 1GB+ file causes crash on Android
Avatar
I've been trying to upload a 1GB file in different ways but every time it causes the app and other apps to crash. I'm suspecting an OOM kill. I've uploaded to en encrypted and unencrypted endpoint and different storage providers. All fail. Using Ultimate (edited)

Hi, is it S3 endpoint or Rclone? Memory handling varies between these two. (edited)

All are rclone

Would be nice to have a fix for this

Hi @Leonardo, we haven't forgot about that one, but this one is pretty tricky and we're finding solution to that. Basically there are many layers before we get to Rclone. Current approach allowed us to deliver "something", but is far from ideal. In a week or two I shall have at least an info if we can have this delivered soon or whether it's something that will have to wait little bit longer.

Hi @Leonardo, Have you tried our newest functionality: "Upload files/folders" which is especially optimized towards Rclone back-ends? I would be keen to know if upload through that function solved any memory issues you were experiencing.

For me as andoid user, upload files/folders works excellent (no errors, shows progress)

Works great! I've also compared it to the Upload files option, and the new one works flawlessly, compared to it

I get an error about insufficient memory when the file exceeds 2GB. I'm having trouble because the file I want to upload is over 3GB in size. The latest iOS version also has the same problem of not being able to upload large files.

When I use "Upload files / Folders" on the Android version, files over 2.3GB result in an insufficient memory error.

What's your back-end that you upload to? It works differently for S3 and Rclone. Even for different Rclone back-ends the implementation is slightly different (some do support streaming, some not). (edited)

What I am currently facing is a problem with S3 (Backblaze B2).

Thanks, we'll make couple tests and see if it's something we can easily reproduce. What's your Android version?
