Community / support / Slow loading Thumbnails (heic & jpg)

Hello Tom, my daughters experience on their Samsung (Android) smartphone and on their Lenovo P12 (Android) Tablet, that that Thumbnails of heic and jpg pictures are loaded very slow or even stop loading. A work around is to close the specific folder and go back in that folder. Then it loads the reaming files. One my iPhone the problem is less present but also there. Purging the cache helps a bit but not fully. We try to access files on pCloud with rclone. Thomas

Thanks for your feedback. I assume that these problems happen mostly when S3Drive needs to initially generate a thumbnail? Unfortunately we can't easily reach to pcloud (or other Rclone back-end` thumbnail, as there isn't unified way how to access them. That means that S3Drive needs to generate a thumbnail if image wasn't opened on S3Drive prior to that. Quick question, once thumbnail happens to be generated, does it loads fine after you visit the folder again and/or clear the thumbnail cache? ... so gradually once all thumbnails gets generated, problem technically should be less visible, is that right? We'll need certainly need to get back to thumbnail settings and allow to tweak how many "thumbnail generators" can work in parallel and tweak the timeouts. Given that thumbnails are pretty new functionality, we're still gathering user's feedback, so we can understand problems user's are facing and develop a robust repair plan. Thanks! (edited)

Hmmm will Check this out. And let you know. By the way of you want me to Check/test things Lerche know. I noticed the you are working on the Mount Option to be Seen in the files App. If I enable it I can see it there.

Check what you asked. When the thumbnails have been once generated they are immediately available when I change folders forth and back.

If you find out some pattern with thumbnails issue, please let me know. We'll certainly be investigating these issues. Regarding iOS files mount, it's an early release, as we were somewhat stuck with couple items (memory usage and cache invalidation) which will require allocating more development time to fix/implement/workaround. I would appreciate if you could let us know if it works for you you can at least get it started 🙂 (edited)

Once they are downloaded and I move between folders they are immediately available. The thumbnails I mean.

What do you mean but get it started?

That mostly works, because we don't rely on file name/filepath, but instead we rely on file hash (which reflects file contents). Once you move, the filepath is changing, but contents aren't, hence we can determine that same thumbnail applies. (edited)

Sorry, I've misread your comment. I rather meant to ask if you can read/open files fine and if you came across any obvious issue.

I get it started solely the folder content is empty.
