Hello, everyone I'm a senior full-stack engineer in the AI/ML field. I have extensive development and practical experience in various fields, including frontend, backend, AI/ML-based customer-facing and generative AI projects, chatbot development, CEO capacity building, MCP server construction, test system development tailored to educational environments, and AI adoption in the medical field. Hello @Tom, is there any fix coming for the proton drive syncing issues? As of now files can only be read from the storage but not synced due to some changes that Proton Drive made. I saw a PR (Still not accepted and merged) on rclone to fix this issue which is heavily based on the Proton Drive GO API/SDK. Any chance we can get that implemented too in the meanwhile? Hi @Kev2312, What release do you use, .deb, AppImage, Flathub? Have you tried using a different one? Are you using Rclone connection or S3 connection? Once I know these details I will be able to pass that information down for verification and hopefully fixing. Thanks! (edited)

That's great, I would appreciate if you could provide me those details... also whilst you're on it. Can you please check whether memory starts growing consistently from start? You can check so, using some task manager or tool like htop. I've forgot to ask, do you have E2E encryption enabled.

Ok, so the issue is related to ZIP, we're aware of the memory hungriness. We'll try quite soon to either resolve memory issues with ZIP and/or provide alternative to Download folder to a designated location. The workaround that you can use at the moment is to set up basic Sync with a mode Copy. It's probably too much faff for a regular use, but if you want to get that folder out of cloud, that should work a treat.

Do you mean can you set up Sync inside the app? Yes you can on desktop and mobile and you can either transfer between remote/local or vice versa or between two remotes (meaning two different clouds or same cloud different folder etc.)

You know what would be a neat feature, Freefilesync has this options to compare files on a local folder and a remote folder. If those files dont exist on the remote they get uploaded and the same way around if the files doesnt exist on the local folder.

In principle that's already part of Sync. It verifies what needs to be copied by using available methods, e.g. file hashes or file modification time + size etc.

Yes but there you can choose what files get upload or not. Or even complete folders if it has subfolders inside. It is just an idea!

I've misread your comment.

That sounds to me like a two-way sync, which is also available as a mode in Sync in S3Drive. Correct me if I am wrong.

A lot of my recent work is in generative AI and creative tooling. I’ve built AI art tools, image generation pipelines, and multimodal systems that combine text, images, audio, and video. Hi Mark, in theory you shall be able to set up iCloud on desktop using Rclone CLI. That requires installing Rclone: https://rclone.org/downloads/ and then using rclone config command to configure iCloud: https://rclone.org/iclouddrive/ You would then export configuration using either rclone config dump or manual extract from .ini file rclone config file and then paste to S3Drive -> Accounts -> Top right + -> Custom Provider. Bear in mind that this integration is in beta and we haven't actually tested iCloud.

If I use S3Drive to sync files to my google drive using E2E encryption and for some reason in the future S3drive becomes unavailable or broken can you just use rclone itself to decrypt the files? great service btw makes it easy for people like me

Yes, it's fully Rclone compatible, especially when you use standard V1 cipher (configurable from the S3Drive E2E settings). If you use default cipher version V2, then you can still use Rclone provided you use Rclone build with V2 support merged in: https://docs.s3drive.app/advanced/v2support/. In the future both V1 and V2 will be part of Rclone mainline: https://github.com/rclone/rclone/issues/7192

We've proposed improvements to Rclone V1 that were pre-eliminary accepted (by Rclone maintainer) as a concept, however weren't approved as a code/documentation to Rclone codebase, as it requires more work on our end which we have not yet had time to complete. what's the difference in encryption

V2 encryption uses very much same cipher, the difference is that each file uses different encryption key (this allows secure file sharing without revealing encryption key to all files, as it's the case with V1), has truncation protection (guarantee that file integrity is preserved) and improved hashing support (reducing verification times when encryption is used). There are also future-proof concepts that would allow implementing V3 -> improved performance for Web platform (or embedded devices) due to different cipher methods support, improved performance for either very small or very big files etc. (edited)
